Best of 2007 - Final

This is My final Best of 2007. Wilco is still #1. The debuts are Deadstring Brothers at #5, The Boss at #9, John Fogerty at #16, Larry Cordle at #22, Ryan Bingham at #25, Band of Horses at #33, Little Big Town at #39 and Levon Helm at #46 Also, as usual, I did some rearranging based on further reflection.

Because the list stopped growing at 50, some albums had to come off. My apologies to the artists. However, like the AP College Football Poll I have an others receiving votes type of honorable mention category at the bottom to recognize albums that came close to making it. For a year in which you hear so much negative press about the music industry, 2007 is a banner year. The major labels may have committed Pop suicide but the indie world is as or even more prolific as ever. Enjoy the list and feel free to tell me how you agree or disagree. Also, make no hesitation to trash me or my intelligence in any way you see fit. I'm used to it.

Chip...I'm impreesed, you're getting comments from the Hall of Fame former Cornhusker Football Coach. I think you may have to offer Nick Saban asylum and a pen name, if he loses another game to Louisiana-Monroe. Maybe Bear Bryant will write in from the Great Beyond and offer some wisdom.

Good list, but I really can't stand that Deadstring album. I can't get past the Rolling Stones sound. Some other bands pull it off pretty well (Lions in the Street, The Crowes, etc), but I just don't like Silver Mountain.

Here's my (maybe) final top albums:

1. Two Cow Garage - III
2. Band of Horses - Cease to Begin
3. Wilco - Sky Blue Sky
4. The Snake The Cross The Crown - Cotton Teeth
5. The Gourds - Noble Creatures
6. Chris Knight - The Trailer Tapes
7. Kings of Leon - Because of the Times
8. Brad Paisley - 5th Gear
9. Magnolia Electric Co. - Sojourner
10. Deer Tick - War Elephant
11. Son Volt - The Search
12. Ryan Adams - Easy Tiger
13. Josh Ritter - The Historical Conquests of Josh Ritter
14. Great Lake Swimmers - Ongiara
15. White Stripes - Icky Thump
16. Ryan Bingham - Mescalito
17. Josh Turner - Everything is Fine
18. Bruce Springsteen - Magic
19. Adam Hood - Different Groove
20. The Broken West - I Can't Go On, I'll Go On

Hi Chip,

Thanks for a great list! Some of my faves on there too and there's NO Arcade Fire!! That's something of a relief... I had a tough time with it... it's a bit pseudo heavy isn't it.

How's the list for 2008 shaping up? I have a contender for you anyway. Dieter Schöön's album Lablaza. It's being given a release this year outside of Sweden which is where Dieter is from. I am totally overwhelmed by it and thought you might enjoy it too.

Here's the link to his myspace:

Let me know what you think & if you want a link to the album.

All the best, Carl
